"Survivor's remorse is real โ even when you're the one who lived"
After surviving back-to-back-to-back heart attacks โ including a widow maker that only 2% survive โ I didn't feel lucky. I felt guilty. Why me? Why did I get to live? I had to get therapy for surviving. Nobody tells you about that part. It's like anyone who survives something others don't โ a shooting, a shipwreck, a crash. Your body lived but your mind needs time to catch up...

Survivor's guilt is real. I have it from my time overseas. Nobody talks about it for medical survivors. You lived and your brain punishes you for it. Therapy helped me. Glad it helped you too.
I never knew this was a thing until I experienced it after surviving a bad car accident. The guilt is overwhelming. Why me? Thank you for normalizing this.
'Your body lived but your mind needs time to catch up.' That line. That's exactly what it feels like.
